METAmorphosis

by Terry Reilly

METAplastic prologue.

Once upon a time, I thought I had a MATE for life.

We made a TEAM there was no strife.

No Vegans, us, we both liked MEAT.

A pair, so TAME, life was so sweet.

But then a huge mistake occurred

We wed, and how the lines got blurred.

She tried to scare ME. TArantula in my pyjamas did it.

She tried to starve ME. TAking my food and hiding it.

She tried to silence ME. TAping my mouth was cruel.

She tried to poison ME. TAmpering with my gruel.

She tried to bully ME. TAntrums and violence.

She tried to ignore ME. TAciturn silence.

She tried to humiliate ME. TAunting with jeers.

She tried to revolt ME. TAdpoles in my beers.

She tried to conceal ME. TAblecloth over my head.

She tried to kill ME. TAblets of cyanide, I should be dead.

That had to be the final blow.

The curtain came down on our show.

I shoved her, cursing, through the door,

No way could I put up with more.

I'd found the METAl in my soul,

My METAmorphosis was whole.
