She's outrageous!

The Working Lady

by Shirley Ann Bunyan

She powdered her nose to perfection;
dabbed rouge on her lips and her cheeks.
Her smooth, incandescent complexion
enhanced an unlikely mystique.

Her clothes were deliciously tarty.
She knew how to dress for the part.
Good time girl, ‘life and soul’ of the party,
she captured her prey by the heart.

She wriggled her wares on stilettos.
Where others stepped out, she sashayed.
Outrageously bold, her bravado
earned ardent respect in the trade.

She was, undeniably, pleasing
and loved to perform in a way
that would garner results from the teasing,
flirtatiously drawing her prey.

Her limitless drive and ambition
was fuelled by a hunger for fame.
To gain ever more recognition
she played every trick in the game.

She always called everyone ‘dahhling,’
and flaunted her goods without guilt.
Tonight she was simply beguiling.
The theatre was packed to the hilt.

She sang with the voice of an angel
‘A Bird in a Gilded Cage,’
then curtsied and waved every angle,
well aware she was queen of the stage.
