A time when having fun was a kid's job.

Childhood

by HarryT

Grass stains knees, a cut on my arm
Dandelions blown, parachute wishes
Building forts of pillows and blankets
Making mud pies with the girl next door

Playing war with the neighborhood guys
Dripping popsicles and baseball games
Catching fireflies, watch them blink in a jar
Kick the can till the streetlights turn on

Wash up, brush teeth, jump into bed
Rain tapping gently on the roof
Sleep comes, dreams of new adventures
Remembering those sweet summer days

Childhood, such a fleeting yet vibrant song
Still playing in my heart in my golden age
