Flame

by Jessica Wheeler

We skip the spark
and burn
on the line of fire between us.

His eyes,
sharp as lasers, pierce mine.
He climbs,
through the green of my gaze.
He digs,
his way into my mind.

To explore
my hidden corners,
and expose
my secret desires.

Called
from the haze
of our dead-end drift.
Drawn
like two moths
to a flame, rekindled.

Heat builds,
in the vanishing
space between us.

Till we burst
into familiar flames
upon collision.

And he feels
like the Florida sun on my skin,
and he smells
like vanilla and rain,
and he tastes
like caramelized sugar.

And I melt
like a torched
crème brûlée,

seeping into his system
to course through his veins

back to the heart
I left burning.
