Night Visions

by Jessica Wheeler

We slip into the cradle of night's arms,
Beyond our weary, wakeful selves, we go.
Where hopes take flight, untouched by worldly harms,
And whispered wants, like drifting petals, flow.

Beneath a veil of stars and moonlit beams,
We cross to reach the realm of our design,
To find our truest selves within our dreams,
Where truths and aspirations intertwine.

And when we wake to walk through daylight's door,
The secrets of the stars, we're meant to keep.
Unfiltered are the thoughts our dreams explore;
Our minds cannot be closed when they're asleep.

May we be armed with wisdom of the night,
And dare to seek a world beyond our sight.

I've always been fascinated by dreams. Over the years, their mystery has led to several influential theories on the nature and purpose of a dream.
The Freudian theory suggests that dreams are symbolic messages about unresolved issues- while the Activation Synthesis Theory proposes that dreams are more biological and the way a brain interprets random neural activity.
Despite the diverse theories, we've yet to reach a definitive explanation- which, in my opinion, makes the phenomena all the more intriguing.
