Dago Red

by Val Crisson

Barrels fermenting
wine in old musty basement
my heart remembers

5-7-5 Poetry Contest contest entry

I am first generation Italian, and usually hate long author's notes. Yet, I must explain Dago Red was the wine my parents made in a basement in Detroit. It was there connection to Italy. Salute. Though the term Dago Red might seem derogatory, Italians didn't care as long as their wine sold, especially during prohibition. We're too PC anyway.
