Be Mine

by jackie rae

Dear Valentine, will you be mine?

Cliche phrase, worn out with time

When I hold your gaze, I see

That you’ve become a part of me

You’ve held me close, just now a year

My heart rewoven with my tears

No, I may never be the same

What once was wild, now seems tame

Yes, one year since you took my hand

A love that took hold with no plan

You’ve held me close and dried those tears

Gentle words to ease my fears

Again, I look into the mirror

To see a spark returned, my dear

If I had derived this plan

I couldn’t have picked a better man
