A free verse love poem

Driven

by Jessica Wheeler

The breeze carries a hint
of cinnamon laced
with leather.
His smoky, sweet
aroma hits,
and I cannot sit still.

This frenzy fueled,
he's the fix I crave.
Compelled
by his working hands,
maneuvering my emotions.
With just a pop
of my hood,
he examines, fine-tuning,
until I hum like a vintage Ferrari.

I am in love
with the way he loves me,
and the way
he draws love from me.

A vice that knows no limit,
beyond the reach of brakes
or reason.
He is the driving force
that propels me forward,
and keeps me coming.

For without him,
I'd be but a vessel,
stripped of motion
in his absence.
Left to want and wither,
in the shadow
of his leaving.
