What could possibly stop the perfect plan?
The Cold

The severe cold was unexpected. Slader would have never been caught if it hadn't been for the cold. He had planned for every possible contingency but he had not planned for the cold.
He clenched the bars of the prison door. It figures, he thought. Cold bars. Dazed, he slid back on the prison cot as he reached for a tissue. He felt another loud sneeze coming on.
Oh, how he hated having a cold.
