This Gentile has always been moved by her story...

Anne Frank

by Reese Turner

“The more things change, the more they remain
The same.”  We’ve seen that proven once again…
A precious young girl, murdered eight decades ago
Remains a martyr, a heroine: proof again, it is so.

But the diary of Anne Frank is distinct in its say
Of what it’s like to be so wronged along life’s way.
She was so young, four, when her family fled
Nazis, to Amsterdam, at just fifteen, she was dead.

Having fled to Holland, in ’33, hiding in an attic,
A coward sold her family out to the Nazi fanatic.
Next, the trains… Bergen Belsen’s gate opened wide
March 1944, of typhus, she and sister Margot died.

Full disclosure, I’m Christian, a Methodist, and yet
Jewish girl Anne Frank; a truth I can’t ignore, forget.
Further, God granted three girls to wife and me
So, I’m biased. I know how special girls can be.

I believe there are angels watching us from on high
And, at our foolish ways, they either laugh or cry.
So, judging by her writings of such depth those years,
Anne Frank watched October 7, even now, with tears.

I do believe that there is indeed a God of life and love
And that He rules this earth in all ways from above.
So, I pray that someday He'll help me to understand
Why such awful deaths are allowed upon His land.

Historical Figure Poetry contest entry

Ever since I was a boy, the story of Anne Frank has been both lesson and inspiration to me. It has been both lesson of the ways of the world and inspiration to note the realities of life - yet maintain a positive attitude. She is among the top famous people I hope to meet in Heaven. I am so honored, and humbled, to have this chance to salute her.
