I miss the classroom.
Oh, how I yearn for geometry
And a roomful of students to teach,
Or possibly some trigonometry
That could be within their reach.
It was years ago that I chose the path
To show some students the way
That the merit and magic of marvelous math
Would help them to make their day.
It was over two thousand years ago
That Euclid came onto the scene.
He gave us the "Elements" that we all know,
And now all that stuff is routine.
Now algebra's nice, and I've taught it before,
But I think geometry shines.
With numbers and x's, it's always a chore.
I'd rather see angles and lines.
Right triangles gave us some trouble until
Pythagoras showed us the way.
And down through the years, others showed us their skill
And made tough things seem like child's play.
My brain is obtuse; my mem'ry is weak
My theorems no longer compute.
My skill in geometry's now up the Greek.
My lack of attention's acute.
I'm still perpendicular; able to walk.
Arthritis is hurting like hell.
If you've been involved, it should come as no shock
That teaching has no parallel.
Now, I only taught for ten short years,
But those were enjoyable times.
I made many friends with my students and peers
That sometime I put into rhymes.
Now I will go off on a tangent sometime,
And think I might go back to school,
But I am quite happy with creating rhyme,
So the chance of that is miniscule.
