Set Out into the Deep

by John Cranford

My boat is so small I fear Your sea
Moored to the dock is where I'll be
Still His voice calls out to me
Set out into the deep
Though storms may find you
You will be safe
I'll be there
Have some
Faith

The inspiration for the poem came from a saying that President John F. Kennedy kept on his desk in the Oval Office. It read, "O, God, Thy sea is so great and my boat is so small." It is such a simple yet profound spiritual statement, I ordered a replica from the Kennedy Presidential Library and it sits on my desk. I refer to it often, and it keeps things in perspective for me.
