A Monkey on My Back

by Tom Horonzy

I thought I'd escaped
from its disgrace
but I haven't.
Scars made
stain my thoughts
aching for release.
Then, all of a sudden,
on the spur of the moment,
the dingo is freed again.
Recidivism sets in,
Retrogression occurs.
Scabs fall off.
Bleeding occurs.
Rationality's exterminated.
Promiscuous thoughts
slither venomously,
endangering sanity.
Partaking, I get burnt.
Crisp like toast.
I devour it anyhow.
Find it undigestible.
Vile spews out.
Depravity crops up.
Morality's debased
spoiling my yen to live
Blackness discolors
the purity sought.
Satan's won once more.
