The Good Old Days

Legends

by Tara Maxfield

As a youth, I can always recall

The old folks with all their talk

About the good old days.

Now, I'm the one with stories to be told

Of that wonderful time when

I wasn't good, and I wasn't old.

Of those days now sepia toned,

A legendary life, a legendary time

Lives on…

If only in my own mind.

The Good Old Days writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem about "the good old days" as you remember them. Any type, at least six lines

The old folks would sit and talk about the adventures of their youth. I can remember my Grandpa telling me about his adventures with his best friend, Indian Jim. I can remember my Mamaw telling me about life during the Great Depression and trying to feed three growing boys on rations during WWII. All of these stories, are such better understood as I age and have had my own adventures and tribulations. My stories, having grown up during a time of peace and prosperity, are fringed with a different set of their own hardships and their own victories.
