The Becoming of Me

As life went on, I wondered if

I was just working to please others

Becoming the Who others wanted of me?

I examined my college life and realized

Regardless of what others might think

I had to do what my heart said was right…
No lying, no faking, or acting, or pretending

Just to be accepted and liked, so I switched

My major to education and became a teacher

Think for myself, seek God’s light

I discovered in the process of life

Loving myself and caring about others

Was the way of life as an educator

I loved and followed

Now that I'm retired I am still

Loving myself and my neighbor

Helping when I can and becoming

The Who that I am happy I am
