Not all war wounds are visible. Not all who survived, really survived. Although I am a veteran, I wrote this poem in honor of a family member who served in both Desert Storm and Desert Shield. The battlefields have faded away, but his mental scars have not.
These are the words that many vets use to describe their low points::
anguish
alone
lost
dreadful
rage
sorrowful
cruelest
(bold in the poem)
We sent them out and broke them. We have a responsibility to try and fix them.
