Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
Drought turns to raging rivers

This is Australia

by Aussie

Shimmering heat covers the red plains
From afar mirages fool the thirsty
Dying, trying to reach a drink
Oppressive heat cowers animals

Wind lifts willy- willy to dance alone
Mushroom clouds building now
Animals ears prick and twitch
Listening for the turning tide

Clouds scudding, grey and green
From bruised purple clouds
Thor's hammer strikes the ground
Lightning strikes again and again

Splitting gum trees, unseating birds
Thousands of budgies, hellish noise
Sulphur Crested cockatoo racing wind
Red-breasted eagle majestic flight

Goanna, snake and Koala climb trees
Boom, crash opera sets the scene
From the skies, life-giving rains
Running fast, filling streams

Dry river beds spring to life
Mother planted eggs long ago
Fingerlings swim the tide
Frogs emerge croaking loud

Mother Nature can be fickle
When flooding rains, a trickle
She always compensates
This is Australia
