LUNE is a short poem with three lines, similar to haiku in that it uses imagery and succinct composition. Lune poetry originated when American poets noticed that writing a haiku in English isn't the same as writing one in Japanese. Japanese words tend to have more syllables than English words and thus it forced English-language haiku to be too wordy and forced to fit the 5/7/5 syllables mold. American poet, Robert Kelly, created the lune in the 1960s. The LUNE consists of 5/3/5 syllables.
