Death in the Morning

by HarryT

Out for a morning walk, reddish sun peeking
Clouds pink and orange spanning the sky
Cool wind blowing the leaves of a hickory
Squirrel on his haunches, nibbling a nut
Screaming kee-eeeee-arr rang in the air
A red-tailed hawk swiftly descending
Curved razor-sharp talons extending
Points piercing the neck of the animal
Horror hemorrhaged, heartfelt fright
Murder done in a short time, then the
Red-tailed hawk carried his prey aloft
