Two Thousand Twenty-two

Strains of Auld Lang Syne still sounded,
as I found myself surrounded
with dire thoughts of what the New Year might impart.
I’ll admit I was astounded
by a fear, I hoped, unfounded
that the year ahead might have a gloomy start.
News reports are so depressing.
Dare I hope we're not regressing
to the point of acquiescing
to a future that has known no counterpart?
