Beaver Moon

Jack and Anna walked beneath the Beaver moon.
November had brought the first frosts.
Anna stood staring at the moon's glow.
'Could this be our last Beaver moon together?' she asked.
'We will have a lifetime of Beaver moons together,' Jack replied.
'A lifetime, Jack?' she said, 'two years, three..who knows?'
For the first time in their two-year liaison, Jack began to feel the responsibility of his thirty-five years.
Slipping as he went down on one knee, he blurted out, 'Marry me, Anna before the next Beaver moon.'
Silence reigned over the winter landscape.
Anna walked on.
