My life

by Joanne Gill-Maddick

I was the baby of nine. The era my parents came from, encouragement or affection wasn’t shown. I was spoiled somewhat, with material things but the emotional connection was what I yearned for.

I have good memories up until I was 11, then life became more complex. I suffered from anxiety and depression and lacked confidence.  My self esteem was shattered along with a negative body image.

I was labelled shy and being different from that image was difficult. I married young to get out of a unhappy environment. That proved to be a disaster.

We had two sons.  I stayed for 22 years because I didn't want my kids growing up without me.

I had other relationships that failed. Finally I met a kind, caring man and we married.  Thank God for him. Someone to share hopes and dreams with and grow old together enjoying our 4 beautiful grandchildren.

Your Life in 150 words writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write the entire story of your life in no more than 150 words. You can be experimental, creative, funny, serious, provocative, reflective, whatever style you best feel represents your life. You must write about your entire life, not just a moment of it. No poetry (too easy). No fiction (YOUR life), although metaphors are acceptable so long as they are directly interpretable to be about your life. You'll be surprised at what your life looks like in 150 words...

My upbringing was challenging. My childhood has both good and bad memories. My parents did the best they could with the knowledge they had. Although I have made mistakes and still struggle. I am living my best life and taking things one day at a time.
