Swallowed up by a monster of our own creation.

Swallowed Up!

by Frank Jauregui

Swallowed up, swallowed up! Lord Help us!
We’ve been swallowed up
By a vicious, black tongued beast!
Swallowed up by our despair
Swallowed up by every care
Oh Lord, won’t you help us, please?
Lord Can’t you see we’re all diseased?
Sick of doing what we pleased
We now murmur, grumble and complain
From inside the boiling belly of this beast.
Lord, help us, we’ve been swallowed up!
Swallowed up by our own comfort
Swallowed up by our success!
Swallowed up while doing good
At the cost of what was best!
And now we cry out in distress
Lord, please make him spew us out!
Though it be naked and ashamed
We stumble forth
Drunken louts for all to see
Better humbled and without
Than prideful, we persist
Bound here, within
The belly of our sin!
This vicious
Black tongued
Beast!

A Monster writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem of any type about what makes a monster a monster.

The only escape from the monster of our own creation is to repent and surrender to our creator, God! He is merciful, gracious, and quick to forgive. The only cure for the disease this beast inflicts is to turn back to our God! ( 2 Chronicles 7:14) If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
p.s. I had a little extra fun, attempting to make the text appear to be a black tongue.
