What the church really is.

The Church Triumphant

God's church is not a building
of wood or brick or stone,
With a spire reaching to heaven.
It's made of flesh and bone.
It's people just like you and I,
the children of the Lord.
To love and serve Him is our goal
gathered in one accord.

It matters not the name displayed
above the open door.
The saints of God who worship there
will welcome rich or poor.
Hearts filled with love and compassion,
Christ's body here on earth.
Proclaiming love to all mankind,
the message of new birth.

At Pentecost the church was born.
The Holy Spirit came.
Three thousand souls were baptized
in Jesus' precious Name.
For centuries the church has stood,
each year its ranks have grown.
It's built on a firm foundation,
With Christ the cornerstone.

Persecution tries to stop it,
drives people from their homes.
But wherever they go they pray,
"Lord, let your kingdom come."
Sometimes they must meet in secret
but God is with them there.
And each day their ranks keep growing
as good news they will share.

The church has stood victorious,
an army brave and strong.
Wearing the whole armor of God
they battle sin and wrong.
Waiting for the glorious day
when God comes for His own.
The church will rise triumphantly
to meet before His throne.

Often we think of the church as a building but the true church is the body of believers, from every nation that loves and serves the Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 16:18 "... upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

Acts 2:47 "Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved."

Ephesians 5:25-27 "...Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish."

Colossians 1:18 "And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence."
