This work has reached the exceptional level
People sit on benches for so many reasons.

The Bench

by Lana Marie

Look at those pretty flowers
and the birds up in the trees, sitting on this bench
I feel a soft gentle breeze.

Early morning joggers
wave as they run by,
it puts a smile on my face
as I blurt out a cheerful "Hi"!

People seem so friendly
at the beginning of their day
I love to sit on this bench
spend time with God
each day and pray.

I see a man
in a business suit,
he looks like
he's going to be late.
Oh how often I see myself
and how I can relate.

I see that young mommy
as she cares
for her cute kids,
they are running everywhere
and blurting out their bids.

What a cute couple,
they've probably been married many years,
I wonder the example
they've been,
to their neighbors
and their peers.

I feel bad for those people
in that heated debate,
it's not worth stirring up
those things that cause hate.

I miss my spouse so deeply
but I'm never alone,
Since I've given my heart
to the king on the throne.

Each one that passes by
I lift up in prayer
Hoping to peel back each
hard-hearted layer.

I pray peace and direction
to each one of them,
hoping they too will receive
the Lord of Bethlehem.

They may not know me now
but some day
when we meet in eternity,
They will know
I was the one
praying for them,
on the bench
beneath the tree.
