A Memory Of Mother

by Bonnie Seach

Memories Contest Winner
There on the mantel, a picture framed in gold...
Gone the day it was taken for it is very old...
Yet, the face smiling at me is young -- and so sweet,
To describe you dear Mother, this fine portrait's complete

Wide eyes of brown, gentle and true
Is the first striking feature I notice about you
Those eyes always steady, could then burn with fire --
I remember so well -- if flamed with your ire.
But, just you were dear, and always most kind;
The blazings of anger did not your love blind

Oh, steady gaze of wisdom so deep,
With sad, longing heart, I this picture do keep
Smooth brow, fine nose, full lips, and wide;
Slender body, small boned -- but the heart there inside
Was big and brave, and eager to give,
For generous you were Mum, and loved to "let live"

Though your heart I can't see, it shines out with a glow,
Through your eyes and your smile, for each person to know
You were loyal, loving, compassionate, and true
The photo tells all Mum -- a complete picture of you!

Contest Winner

I did have a photo of my mother in a gold frame. I have had to improvise with one from the internet. It is royalty-free. My mother was a great influence in my life. I miss her
