Quaint Quiet Gone Forevermore

by HarryT

In a once quiet and peaceful place
I saw from the last window laced
Five steely giraffes bowing down
Belching beetles chewing the ground
Quaint little houses being demolished
Evening porch sitting forever abolished

No more tranquil shade filled walks
No more intimate moonlight talks
No more musical leaves in breeze
No more silence grass growing ease
Not even an island of tawny-brown weeds

Sun once shown in brilliant specter
Lanced by towers as Achilles did Hector
Our streets now canyons of gauzy haze
Jack has no trees to set leaves ablaze
Gone are the oaks, elms and maples
Now concrete, steel and glass our staples

Human storage cabinets penetrate the sky
Building more the future modus operandi
Lost forevermore is our homey village quiet
