Shearing the Rams

by Wils

With sharpened clippers in my hand
Wool thrown around the floor
I am the shearer of shearers
What else can life be for?

Bring in the sheep lined at the door
My shoulders I do flex
I clip and snip without a slip
Then move on to the next

The smell of wool hangs in my nose
Back is sore around the clock
There’ll be no break to ease the ache
Until we’ve sheared the whole flock

A sunset beer at day’s end
The shearer’s yarn is told
Of a life of country shearing sheds
To a shearer’s life, I’m sold
