Albino hatchling is born

Albino Marine Turtle

by Aussie

Mother turtle lumbers up the beach
Eggs to lay in baking sands
Tourists gawk at her pain
A tear runs from her eye
She has taken so long to lay
Out of the sea, struggling to breathe
Every year she returns to commit
Her young to the sands to hatch
Slowly, slowly she covers her eggs
Makes her way back to the sea
She will never see her young born
But she will return again to lay
Time passes, predators are hungry
Digging for those precious eggs
Man looks after her eggs today
Stopping predators have their way

Free Verse Poetry Contest contest entry

Contest entry for Free Verse Poetry: The wonder of nature is displayed at Mon Repos Beach, Queensland. Where the turtles come to lay their eggs and return to the sea. This year an albino baby turtle was discovered when the hatchlings left their nest. One out of one thousand hatchlings survive their run for the ocean. Crabs wait on rocks to feast; and if they do make it, large fish take them. Unfortunately for the albino, she has less chance because of her inability to blend in. Marine turtles are so loved by Australians and tourism allows you to swim with them. Mother turtle digs for two hours to lay her eggs. Isn't nature amazing? They are now protected and the mature turtle is an endangered species because man dumps plastic in the ocean and turtles eyesight is poor so they digest plastic bags, spent fishing lines with hooks. Thanks for reading.
