Waiting

Adam flung open the apartment window. Reddish-brown sycamore leaves drifted down.
'How long more?' he murmured.
Vaccines? Cure-all or con job?
Days passed, mostly in an eerie silence. He was one of the lucky ones, working from home, or so it was touted.
He'd grown weary of zooming, both colleagues and friends.
His thirty-year-old heart ached for a human touch.
Laura zoomed less. Zoom love was a fragile flower, gestated within the shrill, crackling sound of high tech.
What if? He didn't want to dwell on this 'new normal'.
His laptop screen flickered 'Host will admit ....'
