What's the function of x or y?
This is fun if you'll just try
As x goes up does y go down?
Does it look like a smile or frown?
What's the axis of symmetry?
Figure out what it should be
Go from there to plot your points
Connect them all like bones to joints
Axis, vertex, shapes and functions
Equations, grids and lines with junctions
Master that, then go quadratic
You may become a real fanatic!

When I subbed in a high school, I told the kids if they would do their work very quietly so I could concentrate, I would put the day's lesson into a rap style poem. This one took me about 35-40 minutes. Then, at the end of class, I allowed enough time to read it to them, then ask if a volunteer would like to "perform" it. If there were multiple volunteers, I would have one read while the others provided the background rhythm. All impromptu. I had SO much fun!
