What Happened Story contest entry
The Delivery
by DragonSkulls
"Just pick up the pieces..." That's what I told myself
when I dropped the pizza on the elevator floor. I was
picking off and eating some of the sausage that wasn't
sunk down into the cheese. The restaurant I work
at has some seriously awesome sausage. When the
elevator bounced as it stopped, the pizza fell out of my
hand and flopped, face first, right on the floor.
I unfolded the lid of the box and used it to scoop it
off the carpet. I lifted it and quickly flipped it over
right side up. I took the extra complimentary napkins
and wiped the goop off the lid and closed the box
back up. I stuffed the napkins in my pocket just as the
elevator doors opened, then straightened my hat and
looked for room number 406.
I knocked on the door. I could hear children inside
cheering, "The pizza's here!"
The door opened and I handed the guy the pie. He paid
me with a twenty-dollar bill and told me to keep the change.
The change came up to a whole, whopping thirty-seven
cents. I paused for a moment to hold in a huge sausage burp,
then smiled, waved goodby and said, "Enjoy your pizza."
