Mountains? Rocks? Sand?

by JLR

Such vastness, unfettered in form.
Across the cosmos, for eons of time
expanding, evolving, growing, dying,
planets and stars bound in dense rock cores.

In our finiteness on earth,
we walk upon boulders that have born scars
and deep gouges
grinding down great mountains!
Being crushed into the finest granules of quartz and feldspar,
while the wages born under the harsh sun, rains, winds,
and unseen, but ever-present, volcanic steaming, stewing
cauldrons of alchemy; spewing forth rocks, unstable.

Rocks, binding, building, growing, gnashing
against one plate upon another and upon another,
Tossing near unimaginable volumes of rock ever upward
only to once again be pressed and molded and folded into
metamorphic formations like coal, marble or sheeted in layers,
densely forming limestone and sandstone.

But be warned regarding the old saying, "build upon a rock, using rocks,
sealed at the seams with wet viscous rock,"
This might not be the wise and surest building block.

Because a hard rock is simply an illusion!
Over time, inch by inch
rocks that you might call mountains
are simply being reduced once again
to a tiny grain of sand....
just to begin again....
over time....building mountains.
