The Train Out of Town

by DragonSkulls

"What if..." Jeff wondered as he boarded the last train out of town. "What if I entered a poem into a story contest? Let's see," he told himself. He had a beginning he thought was humorous and just began typing.

Yes, some might ask what happened here,
and what's the life I lead.
But sadly they will never know
though they will beg and plead.

Please, tell us, friend, where you may go
upon the last train out.
I'll chuckle as I shake my head
and leave them all in doubt.

For only I know where I'll go
and seek what I believe,
while all of you will grasp at straws
at why I chose to leave.

What if I had a lover there,
like many folks will write,
who dare not think outside the box
like I now do tonight.

How worthless is a poet's work
that has no sight in view?
My reason on the last train out...
I'll never share with you.

I know that some will whine and cry,
"This story makes no sense."
"I had no clue when I began,"
I'll say in my defence.

Jeff knew there would be serious conflict for what he wrote. Was it a story or was it a poem? No matter how ridiculously stupid it was, he knew it was indeed a story, but wondered if the committee would be just.

Jeff settled in for the long train ride and patiently waited to see if he'd be unfairly disqualified.

Sorry, I was just in one of those moods. Lol

Thanks for reading.
