Thankful Sonnet contest entry

Ted

by DragonSkulls

My ode is to a man so dear and kind
He's one of very few that I adore.
I label him a hero in my mind.
It's Ted who owns the local liquor store.

He greets me by my name like buddies do
and wishes he could sell me booze at cost.
He says some day we'll have a drink or two,
if he can ever find the phone he lost.

But liquor's not the only thing he sells.
He's sure one day I'll scratch a winning card.
I've left there broke on many sad farewells
and passed out drunk before I reached my yard.

Some think I'm wasted now, I won't refuse.
Yet thank you, Ted, who sells me liquid muse.
