To My Husband (see note)

You Soar

by Cynthia Adams1

You are a balding eagle who took me
in talons, plenty strong to hold me fast,
to the land where you’s and I’s become “we.”
In this idyllic place, the die was cast.

I am a choosy cat with locks quite fair
who couldn't find a match with common beasts;
enamored of your lips, your eyes, you hair
I longed to share with you your luscious feasts.

Though the years have caught us, thrown us hard
against a wall that will not give an inch,
you hold my feeble thoughts in high regard;
I hold your withered body in a clinch.

I love your soaring mind and tender touch.
Your flame of life has not been tempered much.
