No Mistaking The Signs

by Y. M. Roger

When daisies dance to warblers’ tunes
and butterflies join in…
When sounds of laughter can be heard
inside sly fox’s den…

If e’er you find that two and three
unerringly make six,
Or gentle, honest citizens
jump into politics…

If days approach with chartreuse skies
and purple birds in flight…
Or chasms open and send forth
dark creatures of the night…

When your handheld kitchen gizmos
abruptly whirl hands-free,
so that at dawn you wake up to
appliance jubilee…

When things you thought you’d lost for good
magically appear…
When stepping out your front-porch door
can change the current year…

If e’er a unicorn pops up
where once a horse had stood,
And races off to rainbow’s end
just like in your childhood…

Well then, my friend, I’d say it’s time
to dance and sing in round,
Shout ‘Abracadabra’, launch a search
All throughout our tiny town…

Cuz things like this aren’t happenstance:
No, sir, ‘tis magic here…
And you can bet your last gold coin
there be a wizard near!!
