Birds and animals have a right to be angry

Angry Black Bird (Nod to Poe)

by HarryT

Perched on my windowsill an angry black bird
Wrap-tap-tapping on the windowpane
Astonished, he looked me in the eye and squawked
Bird tweets I never have heard--
He chirped, “You people are to blame.”

He then explained--
He was unhappy with the foul changing world
Angrily he twittered our world has become--
Heavy with filth and grime why have
you let this be done?

Quote the Black Bird--
It’s so sad what is happening here

I said, “I know we are at fault and we need
To work to make our world better.”

Black bird cheeped--
It’s plain to see you have not done the work.
My bird friends are dying, our animal
Companions are losing their homes
This is happening through no fault of our own.

Quote the Black Bird--
It is so sad what is happening here

I said, “I’m so sorry, we must do better
I know, for all the lives in our world.

Black Bird puffed up, raised both wings
and squawked—
What have you people done?
Our skies are no longer clean
Our water no longer clear

Quote the Black Bird—
It’s so sad what is happening here

He continued, Darkness lurks in your leader’s quirks
Your country is growing sick so very, very sick
Hatred, divisiveness and illness wafts through the air.
Angry bird’s words fade into a long deep moan--

Quote the Black Bird—
It’s so sad what is happening here

I responded, “Our scientist have warned us
But we have failed to get to work on the
Challenge of the changing climate task.”

Black Bird said--
You must be watchful, no more excuses,
you must act now to protect our world
Or this curse will never be lifted
If not done, we’ll all suffer forevermore.

His last words as he flew from the sill

Quote the Black Bird--
It’s so sad what is happening here
