Gift of the Fairy Ring

by Y. M. Roger

As sunlight kissed the drops of dew
upon our sleepy summer lawn,
I felt excitement start to brew
at revelations of the dawn…

‘Neath where the oaks display their moss
I spied a most peculiar thing,
‘Twas five and fifty inches ‘cross:
a bright, inviting fairy ring!

Just think, there was a meeting here
of tiny fae folk and their friends!
Was English tea or Irish beer
the drink of choice for this weekend?

Then as I gently stepped inside
that circle formed with magic’s brush,
I heard and saw the fleeting tide
of laughter tinged with pixie dust…

Such essence lingers for the soul
unstained by anger or life’s hate,
And lends a grin to share tenfold
'tis pow'rful magic smiles create!

I woke up this morning to a fairy ring in the backyard - how awesome is that!! A fairy ring is a circular formation of mushrooms (or toadstools as I like to refer to them - wink, wink). According to legend, it is a place for fairies to sit and talk or dance and celebrate. Yeah, there's a scientific explanation for them, but I'm going with the fantasy!

As always, thank you for reading me! ;)

Image is not of my backyard. ;) It is of 'Fairy Ring' from www.stuttgartdailyleader.com
