Lamenting the passing of spring and summer

A chapter in the book Heart Cafted Poems - 2020

Transitions

by JLR

Fall's colours are in full swing
as leaves change the summer scene

In a matter of a few short weeks
it has gone from very green peaks

to shrouded trees and very grey skies
while many colourful birds chirp goodbyes

As morning creeps into the dark nights view
a dose of chilled air brings shivers to you

'Ere, stoking the hearth by stirring the embers
stirs you to split more wood before December,

The garden has produced its final crop
'tis time to let it rest as growth did stop.

I sip a cup of coffee marvelling at such as this
certain other seasons do not provide this much bliss,
