Dave M was born in 1941. After teaching in university, he took a position at the US Navy's research base in Panama City, Florida. He has since retired. He and his wife, Mary Jane, currently live in Dalton, Georgia.

OK. Enough of this third-person stuff. It's pretentious. Now, I'll really tell you about myself. First off, my family. Mary Jane and I have been married for forty-two years and counting. We have two daughters and a granddaughter, and all four women are the apples of my eye.

Now, about retirement. I love it! I can get up when I please and go to bed when I please. In between these two activities, I can also do what I please. Even so, there are not enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do. Boredom is not an option.

First off, I enjoy reading and writing. Of course, I wouldn't be here if I didn't. I've written quite a bit of science fiction (nuts and bolts, no dungeons and dragons), mostly for the enjoyment of myself and Mary Jane. I have self-published a book (there's a link to it somewhere around here). For the past several months, I've belonged to a writer's group that meets twice a month.

My reading interests go well beyond science fiction. Because my mother was born in Russia (in 1916), I've become very interested in the history of the Soviet Union, especially its social history in the 1920's and 1930's. Now that Communism is dead, honest research, sifting through archives and interviewing old people, is producing a wealth of excellent books.

I also enjoy yard work, growing azaleas, petunias and other beautiful plants. Mary Jane enjoys growing juicy tomatoes. We both enjoy jigsaw puzzles, and we especially enjoy sitting on our high porch, ten feet off the ground. We feel like we're up in the trees that surround our house, and we like watching what our neighbors are up to. Yes, we're nosy, but so are they.

So, hey! I enjoy being alive!
