The Cardinal and the Bear

by damommy

The big black bear knows winter’s near,
says to herself, “It’s almost here.
I have to find a cave that’s right
to keep my cubs through this long, frozen night.”

The cardinal seeks where berries grow.
“I also know just where to go
for all the treats that humans share,
and make my home in that great pine tree there.”

Meanwhile, the bear has found her place.
“It’s such a warm and cozy space.
Oh, this is it,” said with a yawn.
“Now I can sleep ‘til Springtime’s warming dawn.”

The cardinal settles in his nest.
“If I’m to hunt, I need my rest.
It’s here they buy the best of seed,
and now I have the most of what I need.”

So very different are these two,
but each one knew just what to do.
They both prepared their place to dwell,
and they’ll survive the season very well.
