The Mother Owl

by damommy

The mother owl prepared her nest
with pluckings from her feathered breast.
Whence came this talent, highly skilled
ability to tightly build
a safe abode?
And once begun,
she never slowed
‘til it was done.
She finished as the setting sun
above horizon barely showed.

So when she finally stopped to rest,
she looked around - she’d done her best.
Her little home was quickly filled
with owlets while she softly trilled.
Grew, overflowed
the aerie spun,
with love bestowed.
They want to run
and start new families, one by one,
as planned to pay the debt they owed.

As Nature willed,
knowledge instilled.

Duodecatain.
A duodecatain is a format created by our good friend and fellow FanStorian, Treischel.
A decatain is a stanza of ten lines. This format has two, thus the "duo" designation. Here are the rules:
1. The meter is either iambic or trochaic, or a mixture of both.
2. There are two 10 line stanzas followed by a rhyming couplet.
3. The lines are a mix of tetrameter and dimeter with the following syllable counts:
8888444488 8888444488 44
4. The rhyme scheme in each decatain is:
aabbcdcddc (but the rhymes can vary between the stanzas).
5. The couplet rhyme is ee.
