An Octogram

Amphibious Romance

by damommy

I heard the bullfrog’s nightly song.
He’s in my pond,
and wooed his mate the whole night long.
Would she respond?
She was the best of all the toads,
especially her freckled nodes.
He sat so sad beneath a frond
there in my pond.

He waited, wond’ring what went wrong.
She wasn’t fond
of sounds he made in his deep voice,
was obvious he’s not her choice.
He’s not what she calls ‘manly frog,’
and so she left him on the log.
He’d hoped their lives would correspond
here in my pond.

If this shows up huge, I'm so sorry. I can't get it to go any smaller.

Toad is a common name for certain frogs. A distinction between frogs and toads is not made in scientific taxonomy, but is common in popular culture.

The pattern for an Octogram is:
