Summertime Sounds

It's Time Again

by damommy

It’s time again, familiar sounds
are welcome to our ears.
The cheeps and chirps and songs abound
as they do every year.
I hear them best at eventide
and even when I go inside.
I hear them best
I hear them best
as they waft far and wide.

Cicadas come when the weather’s hot
and really make a din.
The crickets answer on the spot,
and rivalries begin.
Their sweet refrains are such a treat.
Although these insects never meet,
their sweet refrains
their sweet refrains
make summer days complete.

And during this cacophony,
the birds go to their roost.
Then darkness sets the fireflies free,
their light’s an extra boost
to end the day in sweet repose
with scents of clover and sweet rose.
To end the day
To end the day
as morning glory blossoms close.
