Political Limerick
Poetry Contest
Limerick - a delightful form originated from Ireland. In honor of the upcoming St. Patrick's Day --
Limerick is a rhymed humorous or nonsense poem of five lines which originated in Limerick, Ireland.
The Limerick has an anapestic rhyme scheme of:
a-a-b-b-a with a syllable structure of: 9-9-6-6-9.
I asked a fellow poet Karen M. Miner some time ago for her rendition of this jolly form, and she graciously consented to share it with us. This Limerick by her is one of my favorites. Here it is:
Frozen, With Salt (limerick)
I wanted a deep Marguerita,
they told me that life would seem "sweetah".
Seems inebriated
is so overrated-
the bartender looks like a cheetah!
