This contest challenged writers to start a story with a specific sentence. If the sentence was not used it should not be voted for. That is a requirement. Writers could not add to the sentence. But they did have the option to put it in quotes (for dialogue) and to change the punctuation at the end. But could not add to the sentence or change it in any other way. There are requirements for length. Minimum length 700 words. Maximum Length 7,000 words.
