Since fiction writing is a continual learning process, it's much easier to apply every new finding to a short story or two than to rewrite every incident in a novel. For instance, at the beginning, I found my dialogue didn't make the grade and had to go back over many short stories to make changes, easier done with them than a novel. You may find a preference for another genre than the one in your novel. You won't know until you try them. For myself, I've been writing since 2004 and still have no real favorite. I let my imagination run wild, developing my own unique style. I feel that to do otherwise only inhibits my skills. And don't think that simply because a story or novel is finished, that it really is. Then comes the constant rewriting and editing. I don't have a novel that hasn't been gone over at least several times, each time with major changes incorporating new lessons I've learned. Ask for harsh critiques and follow much of the advice you get in return. Not all, but if you hear the same thing multiple times, they're probably correct. Charlie - | ||
