Mayflowerbg, aka Maya Lyubenova, is a very tough person with a gentle heart; a Bulgarian who survived communist dictatorship and breast cancer; now writes poetry in English (well, most of her work was originally written in English). Fanstory was her first site where she learned a lot. In the summer of 2006 she started studying and writing haiku with Alvin T. Ethington and Bellidanser's kind help and support, and now Maya's got quite a few haiku published in different magazines and online e-zines.
A year and a half ago she made her first haiga--that is a haiku in a picture, and started submitting her works in the World Haiga Contest. At the 65th contest in March 2009 the jury named her the WHA Master Haiga Artist. This is the fourth title in the history of the contest. She's very happy because that's her dream-come-true!
In May 2009 her haiku placed first in the Second Bulgarian Haiku Contest. As a result, her bilingual haiku-book Flecks of Blue is on the book markets |
