Sally,
It sounds like the real versions of Belle and Lawrence have made the most of their scandalous start! 44 years of happily married escapades I am sure! Sons to take after their dad no doubt and a sister that either chimed in on the fun ( that is me) or was mortified all her life- never knowing what her brothers were going to pull.
And Belle- how many times was her patience tried- but her heart filled to overflowing by Lawrence?
Do I want to read the next installment? As the married couple would say. I do!
Great work.

Thank you for the lovely review and generous stars, dear Sammie. I'm so pleased you enjoyed this. Yes, our Belle was a patient woman, and a loving person. Lawrence scored big time.

LOL!! :) ;) Oh my goodness... what an awful ordeal -- cured or not, I think I would have completely lost my composure with the whole thing! It is a good thing she's such a gentle person.... :):) :) Thanx for sharing their story, Lady Sal, in your well-written pen! :) Yvette

Hi Sally,
I loved your story! But I think Larry's friends went a little overboard. When the howling started, I wondered if coyotes or a bear had come upon him and bit off his privates. That would be a sorry sight for Belle, and Larry's buddies would never forgive themselves.
With the ending, I understood the picture better. It's okay for women to show their ankles, but not men.
"When Lawrence's brother, Tony, knelt to take communion during his nuptials, the soles of his shoes read, "Help Me!" (artistically drawn in white shoe polish by Lawrence.)" ... that must have got quite a laugh from everyone except the parents of the bride and some of her family members.
Is this a true story, Sally? What a way to start a marriage... getting rescued by the bride.
Nicely penned!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Most of this is true and my husband and I were wedding attendees. These groomsmen and their brothers had a thing going that had been perpetrated by Lawrence. Thankfully, this ended it for Lawrence, scores settled, truce called, and everyone seemed to grow up at the same time. The reception was actually on the FOB's 15 acre wooded estate. Still, the key was in the boot as described and Lawrence was really freed by his bride with the key. We all laugh so hard remembering this. I'll never forget the look on his face when he was hauled off by the kidnappers. Classic.

I'm deeply honored by this and the marvelous stars! Thank you so much, Kimbob. Sending you my best today as always,

The pranks on the groom were probably VERY deserved, but at the expense of the bride? Although, I seemed as though she 'knew' what she was marrying! I am sure, many of the things that they had thought of were much worse than what they settled on doing.

Enjoyed.

What an amazing story! I don't think I've ever heard such an incredible -- and true! story of comeuppance before, and certainly never one involving a wedding!

It was quite fascinating and I am sure it is legendary, within their now-expanded family.

I just found one little spag:

"You take it from here, Belle" said Lou.
-->
"You take it from here, Belle," said Lou.

It's just sad that the people most likely to benefit from the moral of this tale, will probably never read it here! But I am very happy for its happy ending.

Ha, Ha, Ha the bride is an iron lady she kept her wits and rescue the groom :"
"This may not be over yet, my bride, but my focus is on you, today and always--no matter what."

What was truly important about the day had already happened: Belle had taken him for better or worse, and loved him enough to come looking. " Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

Poor man, it served him right though, lol. You can't be a prankster all your life without payback happening. This one was excellent. I'm sure the children and grandchildren enjoyed the telling of the story. Well done, Sally! :)) Sandra x

Sounds just like a bunch of ol' boys' antics to always try and one-up the other. But I must admit, this get-even crusade might have stepped a little over the line. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Ha! It seems that being a lifetime prankster can come back to bite you at a most inopportune time. This story is even funnier, knowing that it is based on a real event which happened to a couple you know who now have been married for forty-four years. One must wonder whether they'd have stayed together so long if he were still pranking.

One heartwarming positive effect of it all was how "Belle" proved her love and loyalty before they even had their wedding dinner.

As usual, you give us enough detail (such as Lou Ann's Karman Ghia) to make the reader feel invisibly present in each scene. The situations are plausible, and the dialog is realistic throughout. The illustration is apt for the last scene, and the music video of "Going to the Chapel of Love" fits the overall theme. Superb.
